When you read the news it’s not quite hard to find some articles related to Artificial intelligence. For example Elon Musk stated that “AI is the biggest risk we face as a civilization”. Even politicians are now getting involved in AI. UAE has a dedicated minister for artificial intelligence and in fact many countries are trying to lead in the path of Artificial intelligence and understand its strategies. As Artificial intelligence is advancing and growing, let’s look at the latest trends in it .

Latest trends in AI

AI in medical field

AI has a great impact on the medical field. With AI you can predict whether a person is suffering from a particular disease or not. For example , dermatologists classifying the presence of skin cancer , classification of the x-ray scan are done with the help of deep learning methods. Also using the data analysis and prediction capabilities of AI and machine learning improvements can be done in enhancing the medicines , discovering various hidden causes of diseases and methods for curing the diseases and many more.

Generative models using AI

It is an ability to generate data that looks real, be it generating images or imitating an action or generating different human faces or even generating text on a particular topic, AI plays an important role in it. This is an application of unsupervised learning where pieces of unordered information through training leads to required results. For example translating actions of horses into zebras and maybe you can transfer abilities of one person into another. A non dancer can be portrayed as a dancer through AI which truly signifies ABCD(anybody can dance).

Speech recognition and machine translation

Google’s neural machine translation also known as google translate is one of the most popular machine translation systems. Where you can change a text in one language to another; using/ training the neural networks which is the heart of AI. There are also systems where a book can be read by an AI for you. Also in the area of speech recognition for example in Google docs we have a feature where we can speak and accordingly the notes will be taken in the doc. Speech recognition also plays a vital role in virtual assistants like Siri (Apple) , Cortana (Microsoft) , Alexa(Amazon) and others.

Learning locomotion

Suppose your network is learning how to run. Initially the neural network doesn’t know what to do, it is randomly initialized and hence in initial iterations it will fail and fall over. But as the iterations improve it will eventually learn from the past and learn to run or similarly learn other actions. This is learning of locomotion which is used mostly in the robotic field. Eventually mastering the vision system and the control system to get the desired is widely used. NASA’s super ball is one of the examples for AI locomotives.

AI’s increasing usage towards creating films , music and games

It has always been a perception that AI can never replace creativity but not anymore. AI has stepped in the industry of music , filming and games as well. It has been observed that in 45sec or a minute a robot can create a 3 minute long music. Yona is a robot who composed and sang a song whose video has also been uploaded on youtube. It’s very fascinating from one side of perspective but at the same time it is also very scary that one day humans are gonna be ruled by AI. Check out Yona singing in the following youtube video

YONA — ONE

Not only in the field of films and music but also in the field of games AI is creating games which are human level challenging to gamers allowing them to set the scale of difficulty.

Conclusion

The field of artificial intelligence is rapidly growing through the years but still scientists predict that there is a lot more to come and we are not even halfway through the search. Rightly quoted by Andrew Ng “AI is the new electricity” which can bring in many changes in the world and any person in the path of AI is gonna rule the world.
